Easter in Russia April 19th

In the Russian language the word for Easter is “Paska”  which comes from the word Passover.  We love to hear that word, because it reminds us of the first Passover in Egypt and when God saved the Israelities with the blood of a lamb, an image of the Lamb of God that would come and save us through His own blood.  As John the Baptist cried at the river, “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.”

In light of this Easter season, we celebrated Easter with our Russian friends at English Café on Saturday.   We had been praying for clear opportunities to share the significance of Christ’s death and resurrection for us personally. God answered those prayers in a direct way as we had many meaningful conversations with students about Christ.  The cafe was set up so that students had the freedom to participate in fun activities such as decorating Easter eggs and going on an Easter egg hunt outside, as well as joining in on conversations about who Christ is and why we celebrate Easter.

There was also a special table which explained how you can see Christ represented in the traditional Jewish Passover meal.  There were about 70 students at this cafe and they each left with a clear explanation of who Christ is and how his victory over death gives us hope in our lives today. Within the next couple of weeks, we hope to continue these conversations which were started on Saturday night. Please be praying that these students will want to make our Risen Savior Lord of their lives.

Yana and Kristina have been hosting a weekly English Café in their dorm room in order to build relationships with their fellow students and also to share Christ with them. This week we talked about “tough times”.  This topic opened up the discussion to deeper struggles and issues that we all face.  We talked about forgiveness and how hard it can be to forgive someone, especially if they don’t seem to deserve it.  Yana and Kristina were able to share about the power of Christ by telling the group about their dad and the drinking problem he had when they were young.  Recently their dad put his faith in Christ, so now they can see the effects of that through the positive changes in his life.

God is really working in these girls’ lives, so please continue to pray for Yana, Kristina, and the students at RGGU.  After Easter, they are going to have a discussion about Easter and what it means to them. Please pray that they can boldly share their faith with their new friends and that their friends desire changed lives!

Three years ago, we had a vision
to explore and evaluate 90 of the 250 campuses in the city and to see student leaders on 9 of these campuses by the end of the spring semester in 2009. After last months believer’s meeting, we want to give glory to God that we are working with student leaders on 9 campuses

Pray for our next city-wide meeting on May 15th, that God would draw even more students from across the city to be envisioned to reach fellow students with the Gospel.
